Bathroom Remodel Phase 1: Demolition

The bathroom remodeling has begun and I have officially given up a clean house for a month or two. I am hoping the bathroom is completed by the time Matt goes back to school on August 24th. Matt began tear out on Sunday and since it rained on Monday he continued. After putting two long days into the bathroom it's almost ready for the plumber and sheetrock! Matt found out that our bathroom was remodeled in 1964 (the house was built in 1920) and the previous owners used newspaper for insulation. Hmm....that could be why I froze when I took baths in the winter! There was also no insulation around the window, which is original to the house. The window even has the rope system for opening it. Here is what our bathroom looked like before demo:
We are not quite sure why we have a "Victorian" style mirror in a bungalow? Thoughts? :-) It is way ugly, so I told Matt to throw it away. The previous owners were biiiiiiiiiig time smokers, so it has a nice coating of nicotine, too.
Excuse my big behind. I was taking down the hideous shutters that just collected dust. Never put shutters in a bathroom. We ordered a window with obscure glass, so we don't have to put up any kind of curtain. Yay! Please note the pink bathtub. That will be painted white and look brand new...I hope! Now check out the demo:

Lovely laminate that will be replaced by hardwood floor. (See the newspaper?)

There was never a shower upstairs, just a tub. So we are going to put a shower in and then I will have to share my bathroom with Matthew. Not sure how I feel about this.

Matt is doing all of the work himself. He took a construction remodeling class last semester and was put in the bathroom group. He learned some handy skills such as tiling, grouting, laying sheetrock, etc. I am sure it will look great when he's done. I am allowed to paint and supervise.
