My Mom and I went to California to visit family over Oct. 5-10. We arrived around 9:15 p.m. west coast time and took the annual pilgrimage to Bob's. My cousin Corey and Great Aunt Iona picked us up.
The next day my Mom, Iona and I ventured down to Pasadena. They have the neatest old town district.
I bought some clothes at a fancy "recycled" clothing store. They had pre-owned Gucci heels for $450.
Then we had a little nosh at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. I love their sugar free pure vanilla frappacinos and chocolate chip pastries. Mom got a salted caramel cappacino and Iona got a cinnamon spice one.
Then we ventured over to the Huntington Library. Mr. Huntington was a railroad barron who made his fortune and collected art and books. It's a beautiful property with many gardens.
We arrived on the first Thursday of the month, which is free, but you must pre-order tickets. But when the ticket guy asked where we were from and my Mom said "Iowa" he told her that's the lucky word. We got tickets!
Mom in the camilla garden.
The statue garden....I think this was in the movie "The Wedding Planner" with JLo.
I've never seen a lily pad bloom!
Sam Maloof made beautiful and comfortable furniture. Iona's husband was Sam, so we had to go see the exhibit and it was very neat.
The Chinese gardens were gorgeous.
The terrace of the mansion could fit my house. Oy!
It was a great day and I got to spend it with my two favorite ladies. I highly recommend visiting the Huntington Library. I am not a museum person and I really loved it.
