Merry Christmas 2009!

This has been a very busy and wonderful year for our family! On March 1st Matthew asked me to marry him and we were married on July 25 in my parent’s backyard in Sioux City. We were worried it would be hot and humid, but the weather was beautiful and it was a perfect day. Friends and family from all over the U.S. (California, Connecticut, Nebraska, South Dakota, Missouri and Iowa) came to our wedding, including my cousin Becky who is currently living in Italy, and of course, our Miniature Schnauzer Bows was at the wedding.

This has been a busy year of traveling, too. Each month we took a mini-vacay or I was traveling for work to Des Moines (February, March, July, September, and December) or Ames (January).
February—Me and my friend Nellie Smith travel to Santa Clarita, California to visit Great Aunts Bev and Iona and extended family. Cousin Tammy took us on many day trips including to Disneyland, the Farmer’s Market and the Santa Monica Pier. Nellie enjoyed her first trip to the “happiest place on Earth.”
March—Matthew and I drove 22 hours round trip to visit Robert Davenport and family in Grapevine, Texas. Matthew and Robert are Army buddies who were stationed together in Hawaii. We took a train ride to the Fort Worth Stockyards, and experienced some of Dallas’ rainy weather and Maria’s delicious food!
June—Matthew and friends Jon and Nate Searls went on a motorcycle trip to the Black Hills and Devil’s Tower. They drove all over the hills, camped in tents, and Jon only got lost once on the way home.
July—Matthew and I took our honeymoon to the Grant Tetons and Yellowstone. It was beautiful and the weather dropped to the 30’s at night. A black bear, moose, six Bald Eagles and deer were spotted. The trip included driving through many mountain ranges, including Bear Tooth Pass and the Big Horns.
August--Me, Matthew, Bows and my parent's headed up to Okoboji to stay at the Presbyterian Church Camp on Miller's Bay. For August, it was freezing!! We had a nice relaxing time, drove around the lake, ate good food and played cards.
October--Matthew and I spent Halloween at Jennifer's place in LaVista, Nebraska. It was really fun and cozy. All 13 of us played games, ate snacks and enjoyed Jennifer's princess and the pee costume. :-)

We have been in our house for one year and three months, but the time has flown by. We have also done many home improvements, including new carpet in our living/dining/guest bedroom/hallway. We painted the basement bathroom and redid the front porch, including new carpet and paint. Next year we will begin to tackle windows, insulation and the main bathroom (goodbye pink tub!).

Matthew is a fulltime student at Wayne State College majoring in Industrial Technology Education (he wants to be a shop/auto mechanic teacher for high school/college kids). He commutes Tuesdays and Thursdays to Wayne (about 104 miles round trip). Next semester he has one class at Wayne and four at WIT. He is also co-owner of Lawn Care and More, which does lawn care and snow plowing. That keeps him very busy in the summer months.

In November, I had my 2-year check up and all signs of cancer were nonexistent. So far, so good and I go every 4 months for check ups.

That's been our year of 2009. Hope yours was just as great! Happy holidays!
Sarah, Matthew and Bows
