Last night the show "My Generation" aired on TV for it's series premiere. While I missed the show I researched what it is about and I think the concept is kind of neat. A group of students graduated in 2000 and 10 years later many are not where they expected to be. I decided that'd make a neat blog post since I was a member of the class of 2000. Here are what I expected my friends to turn out like and how they actually turned out, starting with myself.

Me: Sarah, 28, I thought I'd be a journalist living in New York City and making tons of money. Oh and I'd have my own dog....which is the only thing that is true now in 2010. :-) Instead I did work as a journalist for 4 years then I switched to Community Development-planning and I live in Sioux City.

Steph: I did not know Steph super well until senior year of high school, but I knew with her great attitude that she'd make it far. I figured she'd be a teacher like her mom and dad, and maybe be living in the area due to her roots from Morningside College. Steph is a teacher and lives in Sioux City with her little dog Simon. :-) Steph and I also were roommates for almost 4 years and I never pictured that during high school, but it turned out we both got new jobs in the Siouxland area within a few months of each other.

David (left): In 2000 my baby brother was just a sophomore in high school and I never pictured I'd marry a member of his graduating class. I also thought David would graduate from college and be a big shot video game designer. He did try that in Arizona for a year and did a little time in Omaha at UNO before graduating from WIT. He's a hard worker and I always knew he'd be a brother I could count on 10 years down the road, which I have on many occassions especially when I was diagnosed with cancer.
Chris (center): I did not hang out with Chris much in high school, and I did not predict that he'd be dating one of my close friends. (Hi Jennifer!) I knew that Chris was a super genius and I always pictured him becoming successful like that dude Sandy Frink on "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion." Turns out he is! :-) Chris is an engineer in Muscatine.

Beau: Oh Beau...what can I say? We all thought you'd end up in a big car crash based on your driving in high school. I remember my mom did not want me to ride in your station wagon. :-) I can say I had no idea how Beau would turn out, and I believe when I went off to school he was at the Movie Gallery. I remember when he told me he met a great girl over the Internet and he was moving to Connecticut. Jon and I were so not happy (and thought you were crazy), because we did not want you to leave, but it turns out that was one of the best decisions because Amy (his wife) is awesome! I might not have thought this in 2000, but I think Beau will make a great political figure someday. :-)

Emily: Emily is my longest friend...I have known her forever and our moms are best friends. Em graduated in 2001, but she might as well have been the class of 2000. She was so artsy and creative in high school that I figured she'd be a starving artist with a passel of kids and a rich husband to support her artful endeavors. Even better in 2010, she has held down a number of jobs in sales and marketing, has a great dog Libby Lou and is dating a lawyer! :-)

Betsy (right): Well I did not graduate with Betsy, but she did graduate in 2000 from East High...in Lincoln. Betsy was my college roomie for 3 years and I always knew she'd be a teacher with a softside for the bad boys. I did figure she'd give up teaching to go on tour with the women's PGA though. Turns out she lives in Omaha with her boyfriend where she is a teacher of 3rd graders, but shockingly she does not play golf anymore. I still hold out hope that she will go back to the game. :-)

I'm happy to report that I've never been in a car accident. Ever.
except for knocking your mirrors off your car. Are you saying that wasn't an accident?
