20 Random and Fun Birthday Facts

It's official. I am 32 years old. How do I feel? So damn glad to be alive and healthy!

My Mom tells me I was born after a horrible labor (back labor-ouch!) and I was 7 lbs. 11 1/2 oz. and 21 inches long. (I think I was also her favorite child. Ha!).

I think birthdays take on a new meaning once you become a parent. My husband always used to grumble about his birthday being another day, but this year I heard quite a bit less grumbling. (Last year we were so tired that we were lucky to make it through the first month of Graham's life without making any major mistakes, so our birthdays were a blue.) This year we are living up our birthdays! For Matt's birthday we went to Applebee's with his parents and for my birthday we had Chinese food delivered to have a nice meal at home with my parents and brother. I know? Wild!

Here are 20 random and fun facts about me and my birthday memories:

1) My friend Emily and I are exactly 8 months and 25 days apart in age. (I am the oldest.) So we always have fun being the same age for approximately 4 months even though we were a year apart in school.
2) I remember it was 70 degrees on my 13th birthday so I wore shorts to school.
3) One year my Mom got really sick and threw up on my birthday, so my Grandma took over serving dinner. My Mom does not remember this.
4) My Mom says my brother and I usually got sick around our birthdays. I do not remember this at all.
5) One year we went to Pizza Peddler for my birthday and the weird Wilbur came to the table with our pizza. He freaked me out.
6) My Mom's favorite birthday story is when she and I ate lunch at Red Lobster. I was about 12 or 13 and did not like any attention, but I let the waitress put a big lobster hat on my head. Ha!
7) My favorite birthday dessert is blueberry pie
8) My Mom's friend Becky used to call us on our birthdays and sing "Happy Birthday". Now that she's gone I still sometimes forget and wait for her to call and sing.
9) I usually request spaghetti or meatloaf for my birthday dinner.
10) One of my favorite birthdays was my 30th, because all my friends came from near and far for a great night of dinner, cake and games.

11) I put ketchup on my eggs, pizza, meatloaf, (well any kind of meat really), Cheetos, tuna or egg salad sandwiches, and lots more.
12) My favorite day of the week is Sunday.
13) I went to college to be a journalist....so far I've worked in that field for 5 years and I've been a planner for 6 years.
14) During my freshmen year of college it snowed so much my parents drove to Storm Lake, dropped off my presents and had to go home right away.
15) For my 16th birthday I got a '93 Geo Spectrum. It was an awesome 3-cylinder car!
16) I'd love to take a trip somewhere warm on my birthday in the next few years.
17) For my 27th birthday Nellie and I went to Disneyland and I got in for free! It was their year of birthday celebrations.
18) Graham and Matthew gave me flowers and a St. Patrick's Day card for my birthday this year. Evidently Graham will only spend 99 cents on cards. Ha!
19) I think turning 39 or 40 will be harder than turning 30 was.
20) Each year I will continue to remind Graham I pushed his very large baby head out for 3 hours before he was born on his birthday.

Here's hoping for at least 32+ more great years!!
