I am sick and tired of the slackers of my generation being...well, slackers! For example, I know of three individuals who have used up their entire sick and vacation time and continue to call in sick. I know one person who has missed 8 (YES THAT'S EIGHT DAYS) since Jan. 2009. That's not including all the times coming in late or leaving early.
And, the part that angers me the most is the people who think they "deserve" to take their sick time, because it is given to them and they earn it. Ummm...what the fuck have you been smoking? You do not deserve to just take your sick time, it's there if you actually are sick. What if you get cancer, AIDS, a rare blood disorder, diabetes, lose a limb or end up in the hospital???? Then what?
I know I was very lucky when I had cancer, because I had some vacation/sick time built up. But I still had to take Fridays (chemo days) off plus go in late on Mondays if I was super sick/tired. And, I felt bad for taking that much time, because everyone else had to pick up the slack from my being gone. There were missed phone calls, e-mails, questions, solutions needed and just office support.
Plus in this economy you should be grateful that you have a job! I know many people who have been laid off since January and February and they are scrambling to find jobs before their unemployment runs out. Speaking from Matt's and my own personal experience, it is necessary to have a job and insurance, so I hope my generation starts to rethink their behavior and become responsible adults...but I won't hold my breath.
