The Transition to Stay at Home Mom #2

This stay-at-home mom business is HARD. Over the weekend Matthew was on 12-hour day shifts, so the boys and I plus Tootsie were stuck at home during a snowstorm. Did you hear that? I was stuck at home with a toddler! I am not a good mom to toddlers. I get frustrated, yell, swear in front of my kid (who repeats words now!), and I hate when he refuses to nap.

Now that I have a toddler, I wonder why I wanted him to grow up to quickly?! Babies are so cute and cuddly and they stay in the same spot you leave them in! (Well, for now Behrend does not move.) Each day I question my decision to stay home with my children, because I do not have much patience. Thankfully there are good moments mixed in with the not so great moments. And it will be so much better once we can be outside daily and taking walks.

I just have to share how the past 48 hours have gone. The boys got a bad cough and cold and Behrend was not sleeping well. Graham was coughing all night and Matthew and I were not getting great sleep. Then Matthew found out he had to go in at 9 a.m. instead of 10 a.m., so he'd miss the boys' check-ups at the doctor. Thankfully I have a kind and generous Mom who came along with me to keep Graham in check. Poor Behrend got his 6 month shots and his two bottom teeth came in even more that morning. The rest of the day passed in a blur until dinner when Matthew's parents and brother came for Matthew's birthday celebration.

Then Thursday happened and the shit hit the fan. Behrend woke up at 4:30 a.m., so I went downstairs to nurse him and put him back to sleep. Except he did NOT want to go back to sleep. He cried and screamed until I went to get him and he proceeded to cry and scream until 7 a.m. when he would finally nurse and he pooped. So we thought he was just backed up. Ahh...no. Throughout the day he coughed, hacked up a lung, had snot running out of his nose constantly, and was not a happy camper.

Fast forward to 2 p.m. when Baby Reese was here for the day and she and Behrend had woken up from their naps and Graham was not taking a nap. I was giving Reese a bottle when Behrend started to cough so hard he was choking then he threw up all over himself and filled his diaper. About that time I smelled more poop and realized Graham needed a new diaper, but before I could change him he stuck his hand into his diaper and ran away from me! Seriously?! Seriously!?

I know this is just a season of life, but sometimes the days are LONG! (And the nights when babies do not sleep.) I wanted to document this day, so I can remember how "easy" life was when I have two teenage boys!

(Edited from Thursday night to Friday morning--Behrend threw up all over me twice with a mixture of snot and breastmilk, woke up at 2:30 a.m. and would not go back to sleep until 4 a.m. and is finally napping this morning. Hoping tonight goes better!)
