Two of my favorite great aunts (my Grandpa's sisters) live in Santa Clarita, California. My mom and I went to visit them last summer before I started chemo and they were supposed to come visit this past June, but my Great Aunt Beverly was diagnosed with Stage III bladder cancer. Therefore, they were unable to make the long drive back (but plans are in the mix for next spring).
Luckily, Bev is able to stay with her sister (Great Aunt Iona) and her daughters Linda, Candi and Barb are driving her to her treatments at City of Hope hospital near Pasadena (about an hour away via a busy freeway). And, Bev has had two chemotherapy treatments. She is also getting a pic line put in one of her veins, so she is able to continue treatment without burning out her veins. Bev has chemo until December and she has kept up a positive attitude. I hope she continues to feel well and take it easy. I advised her to bulk up on pasta and carbohydrates. :-)
She also has lots of family visitors, including my cousin Tara's daughter Ella. She is a little over 6 months old and a super cutie! Here are photos of Ella with Beverly (white sweater) and Iona.
