Remembering Belle

When I was a freshmen in college, I met one of my best friends Betsy. The first time I went home to Lincoln with Betsy, I was very excited. Betsy had a dog named Belle and I had always wanted a dog of my own, so I figured the next best thing was to have a friend with a great dog. And, Belle was just that and more. She was a cute little mutt, a mix of rat terrier, possibly Schnauzer and cute other dog breeds. She was little (about 18 pounds), black and was not a barker. Betsy was an only child, so Belle was just like a perfect sister that did not talk back. :-) I really loved to visit the Hall's house and see Belle, but this week Belle went to heaven. After 15 great years, Belle was diagnosed with Lymphoma and had tumors in her neck (how ironic?!). So, I have compiled a top 10 list to send to Betsy. (I will post a pic when I get to my home computer.)

Sarah’s Top 10 Belle Memories
1) Belle did some great tricks and even learned a new “Bellerina” trick later in life (Who says you can’t teach an old dogs new tricks?)
2) Belle looked cute in anything, even a Nebraska football helmet
3) Belle was always sticking her little head through the banisters to say goodbye or hello to anyone coming in and out the front door
4) Belle slept with her head under the covers (I am never going to understand that, but it cracks me up)
5) Belle could play a great game of “Where’s Betsy?” and inspired me to teach my dog that game
6) Belle took great photos, especially professionals by Nellie Smith Photography
7) Every time Sarah tried to pick Belle up, she’d lay on her back (which Belle knew Sarah could not pick her up from)
8) Belle loved toys, especially the Christmas stuffed animal that Sarah gave her one year….perhaps she loved that toy a little too much
9) New Year’s 2003 when Sarah was at the Hall’s house and got sick, it was Belle who was a great nurse and kept her company
10) Belle was a great dog and friend
