This weekend Matthew and I went to my parents' house for dinner and to watch some football. (Well, my mom and I went shopping and for coffee during the games.) Mom made yummy pizza roll-ups, so I brought over dessert. A homemade yellow cake with the best frosting. I followed Betty Crocker's recipe for yellow cake, but decided to bake it in my bundt pan with a layer of strawberry jam in the middle.
The frosting is super easy and delish! Matthew helped me make it. I only made half a recipe, because I don't like loads of frosting on my cakes, but I am posting the whole recipe for those who want to make a layer cake or a large sheet cake.
Best Frosting Ever
(Recipe from Allrecipes.com)
1 c. milk
5 T. flour
1 t. vanilla (I always add more of this)
1 c. butter
1 c. granulated sugar (not powdered!)
Whisk flour into milk over low heat. Whisk until thick then add the vanilla. Set aside and allow to get to room temperature. In the meantime, blend the butter and sugar until nice and fluffy. Stir in the flour mixture and add food coloring if desired. I used purple for something fun. Immediately frost your cooled cake and decorate with sprinkles. Sprinkles just make everything better.
