Race for Hope: 15 Year Celebration

On Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 I attended the Race for Hope.  The race is a benefit for the June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, Iowa.  I feel a close connection to this race since I have and still am a patient of the cancer center.   My best buddies Jennifer (left to right), Nellie and Betsy came up for the race from Omaha and Lincoln. My younger brother David also walked with us.
The day was cool and cloudy, but it was a much better day than last year's race day. Last year it was 40 degrees and rainy. (I remember thinking: "I have never been this cold in my life!")  Thank goodness the rain stayed away and the Adam's Nature Preserve is a great place with lots of trees to block the wind.

(Notice the wet pant leg? Jennifer and I stopped to pick up water cups and I managed to spill one full of water down my pants. Go me!)

Nellie is a professional photographer, so we decided to walk/jog with the 5K runners to get some good pictures. I even convinced Jennifer to run with me (for a little bit)!

I have to give major credit to the race's creator Jean Gill and the cancer center's Pat Hubbard. What a great pair of ladies who pull this off every year.  Also, thanks to the Race for Hope committee members!
