This Christmas has been a bit different than normal. First, I am not feeling oh so jolly, because there is no snow! (Yes, it has been in the upper 40's all week. Crazy!) Second, we spent Christmas Eve night in the E.R. with my mother-in-law.
Every year we celebrate Christmas with my in-laws on Christmas Eve. We eat dinner at our house, go to church (this year I volunteered in the nursery - it was lots of fun!) and then we come back to open presents. However, my mother-in-law was bit by her dog on Friday and on Saturday night it was swollen, red and quite warm. A doctor from our church recommended we take her to the E.R., but she did not want to spoil Christmas. So we went home from church, opened presents then my father-in-law took her to St. Luke's. However, he had to leave at 10:30 p.m. to go deliver the Sioux City Journal newspaper, so Matthew and I headed up to the hospital. I was glad no one was bleeding to death and really all the employees were nice (it pays to go to the E.R. on a jolly day I suppose).
This was after she had her finger lanced and a drain put in to help it heal. The orange is from the stuff they use to clean the area before surgery. And, can you see they marked how far up the red went on her hand? We stayed until 1 a.m. when she got into a room. Then went home to rest up for Christmas Day.
We celebrate Christmas Day with my mom's side of the family. This year my parents' hosted. We gave my grandparents their first flat screen television then had appetizers, lunch, dessert, and more snacks. It was a nice day, but I was so tired. After some Diet Coke I had more energy to head up to the hospital to visit my mother-in-law again.
We ate Christmas dinner in the St. Luke's cafeteria. They had a free meal for patient's families and staff, so we enjoyed turkey, stuffing, rolls and the works with my father-in-law. After a long day we went home and got some rest. Then I did a bit of day after Christmas shopping with Miss Lauri and Emily and my Mom. I bought one Christmas present for my dad for Christmas 2012. I really want to make all the rest of my presents for next Christmas, so I had better get started!
Merry Christmas 2011! Maybe we will have a "normal" white Christmas next year. :-)
(Oh and Bows made out like a bandit on Christmas. She got two new beds, two sweaters, one coat, dog treats and dog food gravy. Life is good for Bows!)
