In July our second son Behrend was born, and I had not for sure made up my mind, but I knew I was not happy at my place of employment or with the management and change needed to happen. Thankfully, Matthew had found a different job with great health benefits, so there was nothing holding me back and when my maternity leave ran out I was free to be a stay at home mom.
At first I was so busy, because Graham was only 18 months old and Behrend needed lots of attention and nursing sessions. For the first few months things were hazy and I was often found asleep on the couch by 9 p.m. while "trying" to watch TV with Matthew. Thankfully Matthew was still in training so he worked regular hours and my parents were just a phone call away along with my brother and my in-laws.
Now that Behrend is almost 6 months old and Graham will be two next week, we have a pretty good routine down. Nap schedules are usually followed, which makes for happier kids and mom, and then I know the best times to get out. Good or bad the best time is lunchtime, and we often eat out with my parents, brother or friends just to get out of the house and have some adult conversation.
I know I am still adjusting to being home and winter is hard, because I love to be outside and walking. Thankfully it has been so nice we've been out twice this week already! And, I have a new group of MOPS moms who are great, and I get to have playdates and mom's nights out. Another thing that is hard is keeping enough food in the house! I am so used to going out for lunch and Graham eating at Kayla's house that I need to be better about stocking up on the necessities....like Wheat Thins and Coca Cola-ha!
I am sure this will be a progression, but I am enjoying being with my children and being allowed to raise them instead of seeing them for two-hour periods are night and on weekends.
