Lent: The season of giving up stuff

Lent is upon us! Today is Ash Wednesday and many good Catholics will head to church to have ashes put on their foreheads. My church (Presbytarian) does not do the black ashes, but I always love "attempting" to make a list of things I am giving up for Lent.

"Lent is a 40-day season of preparation for the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The season of Lent in the springtime is the life-giving season. The 40 days represent the time Jesus spent in the desert, where according to the Bible he endured temptation by Satan." (Wikipedia)

As a Christian, I think I take all things religious very unseriously. So, I am attempting to get back to my roots. I plan to make a short list of things I will go without during Lent and stick to it! After all, Jesus abstained, so why can't I?

1. French fries - I think Satan made French Fries, because they are so damn addicting! However, I don't need them and neither do my thighs. Be gone damn potatoes fried in oil and lighltly salted!

2. Pop, especially Diet Coke - Another food/drink item that has Satanic roots! Not only is it addicting, but it makes people feel/look bloated and if I want to keep up with my New Year's resolution to lose weight....well no more pop. Strictly water or iced tea!

What is on your list of things to refrain from during Lent?
