Saving lives in rural America

Last night I drove to Meriden, Iowa (about 1 hour, 10 minutes northeast of Sioux City) for a council meeting. I am working on some business with the community for my job, so we met and got the details ironed out. However, prior to the 6 p.m. meeting, a few members of the Meriden City Council were saving a life.
They are members of the Meriden EMS squad and they responded to a call in Cleghorn, Iowa (about 5 minutes away) at the bank. A 30-year-old electrician was working on a ceiling light when he was electrocuted, fell 10-feet off of his ladder and landed on his head. He was dead when they arrived on scene and they worked on him continuously as he coded over and over on the ride to the hospital. The driver even had to pull over at one point to help inject medication into him. Upon arriving at the hospital, Sioux City's Mercy Air Care was called to life flight him to Sioux City.
All this happened in the late afternoon and the council members managed to make it to their meeting on time. That is called hard work, dedication and the rules of life that come from living in rural America.

Sarah - thanks for the invite to you blog! I love it! And that is a crazy story about your meeting! I don't think I would be able to sit down for a meeting after all of that. CRAZY! I have two blogs going myself... one with general family updates {+ other random stuff I come up with}. And I just started a scrapbook blog.
