M.O.M.: A Series (Part 5: Rebecca)

Part five in the M.O.M. series features my friend and close-ish neighbor Becca. She and I grew up near each other and grew apart then grew back together as friends. I used to hang out with her kiddos before Graham and now we do fun field trips like the Art Center and parks. She has four little ones and is a busy sewing mom who runs her own Etsy shop Ponjer and Sessor. (You can check it out on Facebook!)

1) Name and Age:
Rebecca, 30

2) Kids' Ages:
6, 5, 3, 1

3) When did you first relate to the word Mom? (Was it when someone called you mom? When you took your first pregnancy test?) Explain how you felt.
I don't remember, but it did take some growing into for me. I found motherhood awkward at first, almost embarrassing. Now it pretty much defines me and I love that. It really is a beautiful thing.

4) What is your favorite aspect of motherhood?
The overall shaping of another human's life, the leading them toward Jesus, teaching them, etc.

5) What is your least favorite aspect of motherhood?
I know that at first I was caught off guard by the constant "stress", almost, of just thinking of another person at all times. Now, I would say the doubt is probably the worst part. You know, the "Am I doing this right or disciplining effectively?" I have constant doubt.

6) Who is a mom you idolize/look up to/admire?
My sisters have been my parenting sounding board, but I am always thinking "What would my parents have done?" Also, I can't not mention the awesome example of the Virgin Mary. I talk to her (most) every day, and thinking of how calm and patient she was is a huge help for me.

7) Do you think moms ever get enough sleep?
I think that "enough" sleep is defined differently after you become a parent. :-)

8) What advice do you have for new moms?
Sleep while the baby sleeps, blah, blah, blah! I think that's some bad advice, esp. for baby #2-??
I'd say, pray while you are up in the night with baby (It makes it a peaceful time instead of a "Will this baby ever sleep?!" time), and offer the little things to God each day. Even a diaper change or washing dishes can be a prayer if done with love and willing sacrifice.

9) What is your easiest go-to dinner?
Fast food or pizza! haha I don't think I've found one yet, if you mean something I make. I do best to think about dinner ahead of time. I'm not good at whipping out something great last minute.

10) What is your favorite non-mom thing to do?
Sew!

Thanks Rebecca!!
