M.O.M.: A Series (Part 8: Kellee)

Part 8 in the M.O.M. series features my friend and co-worker Kellee. She has two adorable little girls and a busy career plus volunteer schedule. (And, I totally agree with her on how you find a new "normal" with the amount of sleep moms need.)

1) Name and Age: Kellee, 29

2) Kids' Ages: 3 years old and 9 weeks

3) When did you first relate to the word Mom? (Was it when someone called you mom? When you took your first pregnancy test?) Explain how you felt.
This might be a little personal but the first time I related to the word mom was when I was experiencing some complications during my first pregnancy and was told to go on bed rest. I remember laying there and making a promise that I would do anything to protect her if she just hung in there and stayed healthy.

4) What is your favorite aspect of motherhood?
Seeing my children's personalities develop. My three year old is a riot. She says the funniest things and it's totally intentional. My husband and I are constantly looking at each other and asking where on Earth she got her sense of humor from.

5) What is your least favorite aspect of motherhood?
The whole being pregnant part.

6) Who is a mom you idolize/look up to/admire?
My mom. We don't always agree on things and still fight but she is one of my best friends. She was always honest with us and I felt that I could talk to her, even in that awkward middle school phase when you are supposed to hate your parents and shut them out. I call her all the time, more than she probably wants to hear from me, and ask her opinion or to just vent.

7) Do you think moms ever get enough sleep?
Yes and no. I think you find a new normal in how much sleep you need and learn how to function on less.

8) What advice do you have for new moms?
You are doing a great job. Everyone raises their child differently and no one has a right to judge you on how to raise your child. Do what you think is best because we all know that you love them and that is what is important.

9) What is your easiest go-to dinner?
We've been ordering a lot of food from Schwans after having another baby. It is super easy - either cook in a skillet or throw in the oven.

10) What is your favorite non-mom thing to do? (Shop, eat, read, etc.?)
My favorite thing to do is to go out for coffee or a meal - just me and James. Sometimes it's really nice to have a meal where someone isn't screaming because they bit their tongue, asking for a million things, or telling me that they hate their dinner and want animal crackers and a tootsie roll instead!

Thanks Kellee!
