Race for Hope

I will post photos tomorrow from the Race for Hope. In the meantime, here is a photo of me, Nellie and Jennifer at Artsplash over Labor Day weekend.
This past Saturday was the Race for Hope, which is the annual 5K or 15K walk/run to benefit the June E. Nylen Cancer Center, at the Adam's Nature Preserve. The weather was great--lots of sun and cool temps! My mom, dad, brother, boyfriend, two friends, professor and I signed up for the 5K and even the dog came along. (We also saw Steph, Kara, Kristen, Corey, Sophie, Tate, and Kristen's mom.)

Jennifer and I decided to walk along with the family, but Matt and Chris ran it. (Actually Jennifer and I ran a bit of it...I'd say .75 miles worth.) Matt got 3rd place in his age group (20-24) for 36 minutes, but we actually started late so he should have gotten 1st or 2nd place. Bows (the dog) did really well. She walked about 2 miles then when David had her leash she just stopped walking and her little legs were shaking big time. So he carried her the last mile, but for a 9-year-old dog she did really well. :-) And, only one other big dog decided to snap at her. Poor little thing was scared but continued on!

Afterwards there was a great lunch catered by Chili's and tons of door prizes. I was very impressed that over 600 people donated at least $25 a piece to benefit the cancer center. I plan to participate for as many years as I am able to and I appreciate all my family and friends for signing up!
