Homemade doughnuts....a Grandma tutorial

When I was a little girl, I remember that my Grandma always made doughnuts when we had a blizzard. Like the time Halloween was cancelled due to snow and ice, we all piled into the car (even though we should not have) and made our way to Grandma and Grandpa's house for fresh and hot dougnuts. Yum!

So this Sunday, my Grandma bought all the ingredients to make doughnuts and I got the lesson, so I can carry on the family tradition. First of all, you need lard. Not butter or shortening or fake margarine. Lard. Good, old fashioned lard. There really is not a way to make doughnuts healthy, so you just have to go with it and eat one, two or maybe three like me.

In the process of making doughnuts, Grandma had to stop to give Bows a snack.

Then I kneaded the dough and rolled it out. Then we let it sit for 20 minutes while the lard got nice and hot. After 20 minutes, use your doughnut cutter to cut them out. (I love the doughnut holes the best!)

Then place the dough into the hot lard very carefully. I only burned my hand once, which is pretty good for me. Let one side cook then flip them over.

Remove from the lard, let drip dry then shake in a bag of powdered sugar or regular sugar.

Then eat and enjoy!

Thanks for the lesson Grandma!
