I saw this neat challenge on Julie's Peanut Butter Fingers blog (http://www.pbfingers.com/2014/05/21/10-day-you-challenge/), so I thought I'd take part, too! Since this is Day #1 I am starting with 10 secrets about me. Some might be more secret than others, since I tend to overshare.
1) I was a big non-participant growing up
My poor mom had to deal with me in all my poopy face glory as a child. I was SO shy and hated having any attention on me in public. I guess I was terrible at my first day of preschool drop off, I did not participate in gym class nor did I smile for school pictures. Good thing I outgrew that....sort of. My former boss Kristi told me if I did not want to do something I'd make a certain facial expression like when she asked me to work on a project or speak to a group. Guess I still need to work on my willingness to do new things. Ha!
2) I have to wash my sheets every week
Even in college I washed my sheets almost every week unless I ran out of quarters for the machine. I think sheets get really icky feeling after a week and nothing tops crisp sheets.
3) Sometimes I sub in "healthy" alternatives
I have been known to alter recipes....a lot. Sometimes I put something healthy in like Greek yogurt instead of sour cream or spplesauce instead of butter or ground turkey instead of ground beef. Sometimes I tell Matthew....somtimes he can tell....sometimes I don't tell him.
4) I hate brushing my teeth at night
I always brush my teeth in the morning....unless I am in the newborn phase and don't know up from down. But, at night I just want to go to bed and I feel like I wake up with really bad breath when I brush my teeth at night. But, I am trying to start healthier habits so Graham notices.
5) I was super homesick my first year of college
Going to college was hard. I am a big homebody and when I realized Storm Lake did not have much for shopping it was hard! Ha! Thankfully I met Betsy and she became my rock to get through college. I am not sure I would have lasted past my freshmen year without her.
6) I never picked up a dog until I was 18
I always wanted a dog of my own, but never really got close to one until I met Betsy's dog Belle. She was a small wire haired terrier and she grudgingly allowed me to figure out how to pick up and hold a small dog. It was pretty funny to watch.
7) My Mom started my ketchup obsession
When I was little I was a twig of a girl who was a very picky eater. My Mom said to get me to eat meat she'd put ketchup on it. She ever tricked me into thinking tuna was meat and called it "tuna meat". Ha! To this day I dunk my tuna sandwiches in ketchup!
8) I am not a fan of going into the Cancer Center
Ever since I was able to complete my last chemo treatment and PET scan, I do not like going into the cancer center. Even if it is just for Race for Hope meetings. There is something about walking into those double automatic doors that gives me the heeby jeebies. However, I am very thankful the facility exists.
9) I would love to work for a newspaper again
I started my blog as an outlet for writing since I was no longer writing for the newspaper. I loved writing my weekly opinion column and hope to one day work for a newspaper again. This time I'd like to try copy editing.
10) I want a big family, but it must be an even number
I love watching movies like "The Family Stone" that feature large (4 or more kids) families and hearing about my friends' large families. (Maybe not as large as our nice neighbors who had 13 children!) There is always chaos and fun and stress and laughs and I think that'd be really neat. However, I have observed from enough friends that odd numbers of kids means someone is always left out....meaning 3 is not the best number. So I told Matt I will aim for 4 and see what we get!
