Last Friday, Matthew, David, Bows and I loaded up the car and motorcycle to head to the wild wonders of Wisconsin/Minnesota. We stopped at the Albert Lea rest area on our way east.
While driving through the town of Eyota we spotted a tree that's changing colors! (Please look at the tree, not the funeral home in this pic. Ha!)
Bows was an excellent traveler. We put her dog bed in the backseat and squished her in among pillows, a big cooler and blankets. She slept most of the way there and back.
We stopped at Wabasha, Minn. to see the might Mississippi River. It's a bit high, but nothing like the Missouri River. They have an Eagle Center where you can go to see eagles, but we just enjoyed their riverfront.
It was a beautiful day! Seventy degrees and NO humidity!
Then we crossed the Mississippi River to enter Wisconsin.
And meandered our way along the river road to our resort, Cedar Ridge Resort, in Nelson, Wisconsin. It's a small place with 6 cabins, but it had a beautiful view of the river and a huge nature preserve. Lots of boats were on the water. (www.cedarridgeresort.com )
We stayed in The Loft, which had the best views of the river.
Overall, it was a nice place to stay. Our cabin was very smoky, but I went into a few of the others and they smelled just fine. The best part is that it is a dog friendly resort, so Bows could stay and we did not have to find someone to watch her.
The only downfall was sometime on Friday evening, I picked up some nasty bug bites and poison ivy on my legs. Thankfully it's starting to heal, but I have a plethora of bandaids on my legs.
The deck was 44-feet long and Matthew enjoyed watching the river from it. The one thing we noticed is a huge coal power plant is located just 6 miles south in Alma, Wis. So, every 15-20 minutes a coal train chugs along the tracks. It does not last long, but man do those trains move fast!
The owner has two Austrailian Shepards. This was Mercury and he enjoyed following Bows around. Two other cabins had the cutest (and fattest) cockerspaniels.More pictures to come of our visit to Chippewa Falls, Wis. and Stillwater, Minn.
